世の中に、神聖な物事は何処にも見つかる。こういう物は様々な目的を果たし、様々な信念を表す。しかし、人間はどのような方法で神聖な物を見つけるのだろうか。どんな方法でそれが神聖であると分かるのだろうか？昔は宗教を通してそれを学んだ。神聖な物は神様の象徴だった。宗教を通して神聖さに辿り着く人達は未だ数多くいる。しかし数百年前、神様のいない世界に人間は初めての一歩を踏み出した。

その一歩から、長く、複雑な旅を続けてきた。何回も道に迷ったかもしれない。それとも最初から道がなかったのかもしれない。人間は神聖な物を集め続けた。時代が変わると新たな神聖さを見つけないとならなかった。古い神聖を拒絶し、新しい神聖さを見いだしてきた。そういうプロセスの中で、何が神聖であるのかは不明になってしまったのである。

現在も人間はその霧の中にまだいるのだ。ある人は過去を向いて、神聖な物を探す。未来的な物の中に神聖な物を探す人もいる。この時代に自分の個人的な神聖さを見つけないといけないかもしれない。そうでなければ神聖という概念を捨て、生き続ける。それは自分で選ばないといけないのである。

Sacred things can be found everywhere in the world. They serve various purposes and represent various beliefs. But how is it that humans come to find sacred things? How can we understand that something is sacred? In the past, people followed religion and through this learned of the sacred. Sacred things were gods' things. Even now there are still many people who reach the sacred through religion. However, several hundred years ago, humankind took its first steps into a god-less world.

From that first step we have continued on a long and complex path. Many times perhaps we have lost our way. Or perhaps there was no path to follow from the very start. Along the way we have accumulated sacred things. With the change of each era, it was necessary to discover new sacred things. Abandoning the sacred of old, we breathed sacredness into new things. And by this process it became unclear what was truly sacred.

Even now, this fog still remains. Some people turn to the past to search for the sacred. And there are those who search for the sacred among futuristic things. In this age, perhaps one has to find one's own personal form of the sacred. Or else, one can go on living having abandoned the sacred altogether. This is something one must choose for oneself.
